The talk was given on Saturday 3rd August 2013 by one of the members of the Watchtower Bethel Headquarters in London. He started by making a comparison of Apostasy with food poisoning.
“Apostasy is Spiritual food that is provided as truth, which proves to be NOT”.
Then he explains this relates also to ones that left the Organisation, but who then rebelled by attacking the Organisation.
The talk was then split in 2 parts
- Apostasy by Satan
- Human Apostasy
Apostasy by Satan
Using John 8:44 “You are from your Father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your Father. That you did not stand fast in the truth as the truth is not in him. He speaks the lie, because he is a liar and the father of the lie.”
Followed by 2 Corinthians 11:3 which talks about the seduction of Satan on Eve, and that our minds may be corrupted.
Again food is used to illustrate the point, where a meal is presented that looks and tastes good, but then it was found out that the Chef had poisoned the food, so would we then continue to eat the food? Of course not and this is all about how Satan will deceive us.
The speaker then moved on to the illustration of the young lion & cobra as mentioned in Psalms 91:13.
It was not absolutely clear what the point was here except that he tried to explain that God’s people will be attacked physically but also by surprise, then linking this is how apostasy works.
The section was finished by talking about how Apostasy started in the Garden of Eden, where Satan deceived Eve as highlighted in Genesis 3:4, and that today “Modern Apostasy” operates in a similar fashion, in that it is a deception that is hard to spot.
This is where the talk really gets interesting and also takes up the lion share of the time.
Again back to the illustration of food, but this time in the form of a table spread, defining there apparently are only 2 tables to eat from
- Jehovah’s Table full of God’s food
- Table of the Demons full of Ungodly food
Taking no prisoners, the speakers defined “Apostates” as those who partake from the “Table of the Demons”, but once eat from Jehovah’s table.
Now for the next big statement, the food from Jehovah’s table is being provided through the “Faithful & Discreet Slave (FDS) of the Watchtower”, so in other words Apostates refuse to accept anything from the FDS and instead eat from the other table, with no exceptions.
This is a typical method of the WT where major leaps of assumption are surreptitiously included in their explanation, so that it just gets accepted without any alarm.
Taking from 1 John 2:19, the speaker relates this to Apostates, as those who went out from us, but were not of our sort, because they did not remain with us.
This makes compete sense but here we are of course assuming that the Jehovah’s Witness Organization are the ones referred to for which these ones went from.
The speaker now tries to explain that we must however have a balanced view, in that there will be some that are simply looking for answers and want to please Jehovah, but it’s those who reject the council provided by Jehovah through the DFS that is the key to an Apostate.
Interestingly no scripture was given to support this point, which is no surprise as there is not one.
Now the talk shifts gears and begins to really get personal, labeling every Apostate as “Bitter, Jealous, Worldly people that are demonic and lie against the Truth” to mention a few unsavory qualities. There was no explanation on how this conclusion was reached but it felt like the WT simply wanted to do as much as it could to degrade anyone that is against the Jehovahs Witnesses’s and its Organization.
A summary of the key Identifiers of an Apostate were given, namely
- Reject God’s Service, not preaching the Good News (Luke 6:46)
- Wicked men, false teachers – using slick methods via the Internet, Television, letters to known ones (Romans 16:17,18)
- Claim to serve God, but speak abusively and are ignorant to (2 Peter 2:10-12)
The Speaker now explains how ones can be protected from Apostates as follows
Taking from 2 John 9-11, we should stay in the light, i.e. the teaching of Christ and avoid those in darkness, as these ones have spiritual poison. They have rejected Jehovah’s channel.
Amazing how again the Watchtower tries to link those who are of the truth, following the teaching of Christ, are ones that accept Jehovah’s Channel (DFS), but no verse was provided to actually prove this.
The next point was Apostates “manipulate minds” & “Undermine Faith” using Psalms 12:2 and 41:6.
Not content with that, the speaker really goes for the jugular by claiming Apostates are of the “Anti-Christ”, using interestingly the points brought out as far back as the foundation of the Organization, being one of the talks given by Charles T Russell. Normally the WT would avoid anything this far back as so much of their teachings now do not agree, but in this case, cherry picked for effect.
In closing, the point was reinforced using 1 john 2:18,19 mentioning the Anti-Christ is coming, which have gained knowledge and remain with us, though they are not of our sort, that these ones will go out that it might be shown up that not all are of our sort. So here the speaker is trying to prove that this verse refers to apostates that will be with us, but we need to have these ones “go out” from among us for they do not belong. The final point given by a question, “So what table do you want to feed from”? Referencing July 15, 2013 Watchtower.
I have got to admit I was absolutely shocked just how low the WT will go to protect itself, with some unbelievable leaps of assumption and tactical persuasion, especially with respect to doing it’s utmost to link God’s table with the Organization that feeds us.
The use of scripture for most part has clearly been taken out of context with very little link to biblical proof to the points made. The direct manipulation of scripture to prove their points is a key signature of the WT and no expense was spared here.
Yes there are ones that will oppose the truth, but wait a minute, how do we know who has the truth? Are so called Apostates really all wicked, demonic liars, only trying to deceiver true believers? Of course not, what the WT bundles as an Apostate, including myself, are simply ones that are trying to find the truth and have discovered there are many “untruths” in the WT for which we are simply trying out of love, to share with them.
I remember a really good quote of the WT which completely goes against what was said here.
“We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated. Are its teachings in full harmony with God’s Word, or are they based on the traditions of men? If we are lovers of the truth, there is nothing to fear from such an examination.” —The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life, Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society, 1968, p. 13
This is the typical “flip flopping” of argument to fit their point where it is needed, I just hope Jehovah’s Witnesses are not so “ignorant” themselves to realize this, but this is where we can come in and help them come to the realization, that they are the ones being deceived and what they claim as “Apostates”, in fact include the very ones that hold the real truth for which they so desperately seek.
